Rolling your own cigarettes isn’t healthier, but it does provide some variety into your tired smoke routine. Home-rolled cigarettes smell better than store bought ones, too. You can buy kits to roll your own at home, or you can just follow these instructions and use this very page!
First, pick out some tobacco. You can get cheap rolling tobacco at any smoke shop. For this exercise we’ll be using Autumn Evening pipe tobacco from Sturman’s Smoke Shop in downtown Boise. Pipe tobacco is more moist and cut thicker than cigarette tobacco, but if you dry it out and chop it up some it should do the trick.
You’ll need some supplies:
- Scissors
- Non-toxic glue stick
- Loose-leaf tobacco (We recommend getting high-end stuff from your local tobacconist, not some corner smoke shop)
- Filters (optional)
- A pencil
Step 1: Take a picture of these instructions
You’ll be chopping up this page, so make sure you know what you’re doing.
Search Cigarette Rollers on AmazonStep 2: Surgically remove this page from your magazine
Using scissors or brute force, get this page out of your magazine. Using scissors, cut along the dotted lines on the reverse side of the page. You should end up with 6 individual rolling papers.
Step 3: Roll your paper around a pencil
Because this copy paper is so thick, it helps to give it that cylindrical shape before you load it up. Roll the paper that you cut out in Step 2 around a standard pencil, then led it unwind. Make sure the BLUE, BROWN and ORANGE markings are INSIDE the roll.
Step 4: Apply glue to the BLUE strip on your paper
Once the paper has it’s shape, apply a light coating from your glue stick over the blue strip at the edge of your paper. (Rolling papers have a saliva-activated adhesive edge, this paper does not.)
Step 5: Fill the tube with tobacco
Finger-pinching from your tobacco supply, fill the tube with tobacco along the BROWN strip. Be careful not to get leaves stuck to your glue. The amount of tobacco is up to you; a dense cigarette lasts longer, but it’s harder to pull smoke through.
Step 6: Insert your filter (optional)
You can get filters from a smoke shop, or make your own by rolling up a strip of cardboard. Line up your filter with the ORANGE strip on your rolling paper.
Step 7: Tuck and roll
Hold the cigarette gently with both hands. Pinch the ends around the tobacco content between your finger and thumb. Roll back and forth and allow the tobacco to even out and take its shape within the tube.
Tuck the edge of the cigarette BEHIND the tobacco content. Carefully roll upwards towards the glue strip, keeping the paper as tight as you can. This may take several tries.
Step 9: Seal the deal
Press the glue strip onto the outside edge of the paper. Crease it as firmly as you can without squishing the cigarette. Hold it in place and allow the glue to dry before smoking.
Step 10: Enjoy
Light up the non-filtered end (the tip) and puff away! Recommended: blow smoke in the faces of those who still buy cigarettes.
