So you’re trying to quit smoking, but you can’t get motivated. It’s just too damn fun. The ephemeral  threat of cancer is years down the road, and you only smoke on the weekends anyway. Why bother? Well gentlemen, let me put some coal in that quitter engine by laying down the facts where it hurts: your dick.

Nicotine is present in many plants, not just tobacco. Potatoes, tomatoes, tea, cauliflower, to name a few. It’s job is to keep bugs from eating those plants in the most inhumane way possible. Not only does it poison the bug to death, it renders the bug unable to make baby bugs. It’s like if Venus fly traps figured out chemical warfare.

Luckily for us giant mammals, nicotine doesn’t completely neuter us. But it does lower sperm count by as much as 23%. It also reduces sperm motility, which is those little tadpoles’ ability to swim. “Big deal,” you say. You aren’t planning on having kids soon anyway. Well don’t worry, it gets worse. Let’s take a look at how nicotine shrinks your penis.

Shaft skin is like rubber. It’s designed to stretch. If it doesn’t stretch, the skin cells wither away and don’t get replaced. A full-mast boner stretches the skin to its limit, keeping the skin healthy and allowing the right number of new cells to grow. Nicotine constricts blood vessels, which limits blood flow. Limited blood flow means that your hard on doesn’t get as hard. Without proper stretching, the skin withers. This causes penis shrinkage over time.

Carbon monoxide compounds this effect. If oxygen can’t get to the tissue down there, the blood vessels constrict even more. If you become atherosclerotic (a build-up of schmutz inside of your blood vessels), blood flow is restricted even further. As you keep smoking, the situation gets worse and worse. Suddenly you can’t even get it up, and your penis shrinks faster.

Cigarette smokers are 1.5-2 times more likely to have erectile dysfunction. One study by the Boston University of Medicine showed extreme cases of smokers’ penises being up to 1 inch shorter than non-smokers’.
