This month on my suspicious love for old men, let us turn our eyes to the UK, where some retired teachers have formed a rap group called The Northern Boys. Norman Pain and Patrick Karneigh Jr. bust the rhymes, and there’s a third guy named Kevin, who just dances. They’ve all been pals for decades. Their first single Party Time came out on September 15, released through Sindhuworld, which is a London bodega that started a record label for some reason. To make things even weirder, the track was produced by Will.I.Am. All that backstory is exciting enough to warrant a review, but is the music any good? Yeah, actually. Who doesn’t get a kick out of 70-year-old men rapping with posh British accents about doing drugs, hitting on chicks, beating off in a tree, and dying? Subtract the zaniness and you’ve still got sharp wit and smooth rhymes. Check it out, it’s the best thing I’ve ever heard.
