Simpul Records commandeered the Shredder on August 13th for a jam-packed day of music and mayhem. They set up a second stage out back, and had two sets going simultaneously from 2 pm until nearly midnight. You could still enjoy the music when you stepped outside for a tobacco or tinnitus break.
Aside from the extra stage, you might have noticed one other thing that the Shredder never has- staff. The schedule was packed and time as tight, and there were at least three or four Simpul staffers busting their balls to get everything in order and on time. They managed the equipment and the people very well with no noticeable hiccups.

It was a convenient one-stop trip to see some of our favorite bands in town- like Karate Riot, The Crawlouts, and Dumpster Fire. There were plenty of acts that we hadn’t seen before, like Jabroni Marcozzi and Ra!ne, who kicked the whole thing off with a ukulele and a hatred of school. There were even some touring bands (Dead Bars, Broadway Calls) at the end if you were able to tough it out without getting too day-drunk.

“It definitely took some planning and work to get that many bands together,” said Sef Idle, the event’s showrunner and owner of Simpul Records. While most of the bands on the bill were either on his label or had work done in Simpul Studios, there were a few special guest stars. “Urban Outfielders are just a super fun band that I really wanted to be part of the show, and Jabroni killed it with his solo acoustic set. Ephemeral Wagon is a young band that has a great sound, so I invited them to bring some more of that youthful energy.”
“I’d really love to make it an annual event. We all had a great time, and I think it’s something that our scene would really like to see again,” Idle concluded. We here at Spud Underground agree, and look forward to Simpulfest 2: Even Simpuller.
