If you’re reading this, then you’re probably involved in the arts. You know the meaning of the phrase very well. You know that you have to take action. If you keep waiting for that record label to sign you, or that gallery to discover you, or that investor to take you under his wing, you’ll never get anywhere. Build your own record label, gallery, or company. Do it yourself.

Why should this mentality stop at art? The world is going to shit, and our politicians keep promising facile solutions. Why should we listen to the morons who put us in this mess to begin with? Don’t wait for them to fix it, do it yourself. Don’t wait for Congress to make rent more affordable. Change your spending habits and do it yourself. Don’t cry for new regulations and beg the police to protect you. Buy a gun and do it yourself. Every time you let someone else solve your problems for you, they gain control.

You are the captain of your own ship. Every time you ask someone else to steer for you, they steer where they want to go. If they steer into an iceberg, you have nobody to blame but yourself.  Consumer society will steer you towards paying six figures to attend their education camps. They’ll steer you towards a new pickup truck, a 401k, and a comprehensive insurance plan. Then they’ll steer you towards a 9-5 job that you hate so that you can afford it all. Everyone wants to steer your ship into their pockets.

Fuck them. You are the captain. Figure out where you want to go and do it yourself.

SPUD GETS AN UPGRADE!

Did you feel the tremendous weight in your fingers when you picked up your copy of Spud Underground this month? That’s right- Spud is now four pages longer! That means more music coverage, longer articles, and all the other spud punk stuff you’ve come to enjoy.

This month’s cover story is an interview with Cade Yates, telling the whole story of The Corral in his own words. Once again, we put punk and metal toe-to-toe and ogle some of the hottest studs in music. Two independent label owners share with us why they did-it-themselves. Spud staffer Carl Hodges lives with his mom and Shaman Chad loves rock n’ roll. In the back are music reviews, local releases, and all the posters that made it to the shitter here at Spud Headquarters.

SPUD UNDERGROUND IS BETTER IN PRINT.

Issue 4 isn’t available anymore, but you can get it as part of
